Editorial Reviews for Foundations of Audiology
Fundamentals of Audiology is a concise alternative that presents the basic aspects of audiology and audiometry in one streamlined resource. Ideal for practitioners in speech-language pathology, nursing, or other health care professions, this new book provides a review of the audiology profession, the basics of sound, coverage of normal hearing function, and the causes and effects of hearing loss. With over 100 figures, pictures, and graphs, it provides a thorough explanation of audiometry, screening programs, and special procedures for difficult-to-test populations. A separate chapter summarizing rehabilitation and approaches to intervention is also included.

Consumer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Foundations of Audiology Comment: The text is confusing and the diagrams tend to not be very useful. I would go with a different textbook if I could.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good book Comment: Small book, comes with vocabulary listings at the beginning of the chapter and an extensive vocabulary section on the back. Great for looking for terms in a hurry.
Customer Rating: Summary: covers main ideas well Comment: The authors cover the main ideas of audiology, for the student practitioner. The biophysics of hearing in the inner ear is explained. Then, there is a necessarily brief discussion of the various auditory disorders you might encounter in a patient. Which elides into how to objectively characterise normal and atypical hearing. Over the years, there have been quite a few methods devised and you need to be familiar with these.
Various hearing aids are now available. The chapter on these tells of the rapid improvement in usability and performance. Due to the increasing miniturisation of electronics, so that the aids are less cumbersome and intrusive. Plus, the use of digital signal processing has greatly helped give a more natural frequency response to the user.
