Editorial Reviews for Brain Sex: The Real Difference Between Men and Women

Why can't a woman be more like a man? What is this thing called "feminine intuition"? Why are men better at reading maps, and women at other people's characters? The answers lie in the basic biological differences between the male and female brain, which, say the authors, make it impossible for the sexes to share equal emotional or intellectual qualities.

Summary: Excellent Perspectives.
Comment: Can we all see the beauty in these truths?
I certainly can. This book is almost magically insightful and bold. Speak your mind ladies. Listen to what your own brain is telling you. The Female Animal is Magnificent, bring her back into focus for yourself. This book will greatly assist you in doing that. Much applause.

Summary: Homosexuality - some science
Comment: I was given this book by my son. It was part of his curriculum in a psychology class at Vanderbilt University.

I have been reading it from the middle.....out. Although I am a 60 year old, white, heterosexual female, brought up as a Christian....I have for many years been confused, hurt and angry over the moral/legal/religious judgements our society is making over the issues facing us about homosexuals.

I checked the index and immediately read that part of the book. I really hope that understanding science will help us appreciate differences.

No matter how you fall out, it's fascinating and educational.

It is a totally worthwhile read.

Summary: Several Useful Insights...but read with Discretion!
Comment: I picked up this book several years ago and gained several useful insights. Some were new, others reinforced some of my beliefs.

Brain Sex argues that men and women are different biologically. The authors debate that the brain is constructed differently in men and women, resulting in different perceptions, priorities and behaviors.

The book explores the power that men and women have. It explains that men's power traditionally stems from dominance and aggression. Women's power is more subtle. It is the force that creates relationships, binds families, and builds societies. This book also explores the different interests women and men. Women are more people oriented than men and men are more interested in things.

The book acknowledges that there are countless variations between male and female characteristics. Male and female characteristics overlap. As with other books that argue that genes are overwhelmingly directors of actions and reactions, Brain Sex needs to be read with discretion.

Summary: Very Informative!
Comment: Based on a scientific study done in England, this book truly explains the difference between men and women. If we did not use each other to procreate, we would be classified as different species! I learned why my husband misses the upcoming left turn he needs to take when he is talking while driving. I learned why I can keep a large list of things to do in my head and he must focus on the job at hand. I learned why men often say, "Just don't think about it." That works for men! I learned why boys are boys from 12 days old. Learning this made me a better wife and mother and co-worker. It takes both sexes to make life work. This helped me understand why that is. Wow!

Summary: Excellent and clear-headed presentation on a much needed topic
Comment: This book delves into a topic that is essential for all adults to understand, but unfortunately relatively few do - namely the differences between men and women.

This topic has been muddied with many lies and deceptions, but Brain Sex cuts through them and tells you what academics and teachers know to be true, but are afraid to say, because they will lose their positions and/or have their funding cut by the PC thought police.

This book clearly shows that sexual differences between males and females are primarily an issue of biology. Therefore the differences will not go away through coercion and re-education programs. Contrast this to feminist claims that gender differences are environmental (and can therefore be modified by putting aprons on men and football pads on women).

Another reviewer referred to Deborah Blum's book "Sex on the Brain". That book is far inferior to this one. Blum has a feminist axe to grind and seems to be distressed at where the science is taking things. In contrast, this book dispenses with feminist preconceptions and propaganda, and gives you the facts.

Brain Sex is a classic.
