Editorial Reviews for The Out-of-Sync Child: Recognizing and Coping with Sensory Processing Disorder, Revised Edition

NEWLY REVISED AND UPDATED

The Out-of-Sync Child broke new ground by identifying Sensory Processing Disorder, a common but frequently misdiagnosed problem in which the central nervous system misinterprets messages from the senses. This newly revised edition features additional information from recent research on vision and hearing deficits, motor skill problems, nutrition and picky eaters, ADHA, autism, and other related disorders.

Summary: Yhe Out-of-Sync Child
Comment: Finally some explanations about my son's behavior that I understand. I used this book as a reference for his issues rather than read it from cover to cover. Now I'll use it as a reference for students in my first grade classroom as well. This is a must read for any teacher - especially primary teachers when we're trying to figure out how to help our students. I bought copies for my co-workers and my son's teacher!

Summary: Something for Everyone
Comment: This book appeals to every kind of parent and reader. There are plenty of very technical sections that will be helpful to those of us who like to intellectualize things and tackle problems with our kids from a research point of view. If that is not your cup of tea, there are also plenty of sections that provide checklists, helpful hints, and tips for dealing with a child with sensory issues. In other words, it's one of those book you don't have to read cover to cover if you don't want to. Because the sections are labeled clearly, it's even a good book to buy for caretakers/loved ones of your child with sensory issues because they can just read sections that apply to them.

Summary: For parents searching for answers!
Comment: No book can completely answer all the questions struggling parents have, but this one gives parents of suffering children several "ah-ha!" moments. You know something is not quite right, but you can't put your finger on it until you find explanations and like parents. This is a must have book if your child has been diagnosed with any sensory disorder. Also, we recently attended several seminars at a home school conferences given by doctor in Illinois who manages one of the Brain Balance Centers, you should definitely investigate into them, simply amazing.
