Editorial Reviews for Abnormal Child Psychology
|
In this current and scholarly text, authors Eric Mash and David Wolfe achieve a balance between developmental, clinical-diagnostic, and experimental approaches to child and adolescent psychopathology. The book traces the developmental course of each disorder and shows how biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors interact with the child's environment. The authors focus on the child--not just the disorders--and include first-person accounts and cases to enrich the reader's understanding of what children with these disorders experience, emphasizing the strengths of individual children.

Customer Rating: Summary: Abnormal Child Psychology Book Comment: This book is an amazing tool to use when dealing with children who are suffering with a childhood disorder. I highly recommend this book!
Customer Rating: Summary: abnormal child psychology Comment: i really appreciate the fact that it arrived on the scheduled date because i needed the book the very following day for my class. i also like the shopping experience at amazon
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't use beyond undergraduate education! Comment: This is an undergraduate text -- extremely basic -- on Abnormal Child Psychology, but it does not provide much in terms of helpful information beyond explaining the basics of some childhood disorders. It may be a fine introduction for those beginning to learn about abnormal psych (although even then, I'd recommend something a bit more advanced, if the population is above Freshman level in College), but it certainly is not written for those studying childhood disorders at a clinical level. There are no "norm-references" or "developmental milestones" charts/tables/etc. There is very little substantial information beyond what one might get in a basic abnormal psychology text or a general psych text.
The upshot: if using for undergrads, use caution. If using for graduate-level courses, DON'T.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Servicing Comment: The book was delivered timely and in very good condition. Most Chapters had information highlights which was an advantage for me.
Customer Rating: Summary: Abnormal Child Psycology? Blaa to it... Comment: This book may contatin alot of useful information. I am a second year student in the Child And Youth Worker program, and it cost me about $140, for about $50 of use... alot of the information in this book was new to me, and I did learn alot, but having said that, the only reason I bought it was because it was mandatory. This book is the most boring piece of crap I have had to read thus far in my program. Facts left and right, but little connection in the actual paragraphs. All connections made are in blurbs about other people's storys. And even those a weak at best. I recomend NOT buying this book. Waste of money and time. If you in college and you need to buy it, show your prof. these two reviews, then refuse to buy it yourself :)
