Comment: There is one major error in the text. Page 101 is wrong. I emailed the publishers but got no response. Be careful with some of the figures. Other than that, the book is great!

Comment: This text has, for the past 10 years, been the best and most prestigious of introductory books in our field. It is a fine lead-in for students wondering how speech is constructed. A follow-on for the more advanced student is my "Acoustics of Speech Communication: Fundamentals, Speech Perception Theory and Technology" 1999, Allyn and Bacon. J.M. Pickett
