Comment: Screaming to be Heard is such an important book, that I have purchased 5 copies over the years. I loan them out to patients and a few were never returned. That's okay!! I just hope they got the fabulous help that is aavailable from this book.
To the reviewer who said they wished they had never heard of this book ---- a few questions. Did your Dr. do bloodwork on you to see how deficient you were in estrogen or progesterone ??? Check your FSH or SHBG ?? Did he also tell you that if you started on estrogen, you would also have to be using a form of progesterone if you were deficient ??? Progesterone and estrogen have to be in an intricate balance and have opposing actions in the body. Fibroid tumors are caused by estrogen allowed to run rampant !!! Unchecked by adequate progesterone, it is allowed to be dominant. THIS IS ALL THROUGH THE BOOK !!! Sorry for the science lesson, but your review really has me puzzled. Maybe you just picked up this book and read a few sections. Dr. Vliet's book is very informative and leaves NOTHING out. I feel it is the single most important work of literature on women's hormonal issues. EVER.
Dear reviewer, I am sorry for your troubles. Possibly your Dr. is to blame if you were using estrogen only. Bloodwork should always be first. It is also possible that you already had TOO MUCH estrogen and not enough progesterone. If your levels were not checked with bloodwork or saliva testing and you were just randomly given hormones, then your Dr. was negligent.
Please don't put down such a wonderful book. Dr. Vliet put her heart and soul into this book. Even though it a few years old, it is still pertient and up-to-date. Cutting edge material that should be read by every female over 35 !!!
I am a naturopathic doctor and the majority of my practice is women ages 40-55. It's tough going through hormonal changes and we need lots of support. I am 50 and have been using the estrogen patch called Vivelle Dot (natural) for 4 years. Ten days a month, I also use a progesterone cream. I have an amazing gynecologist that will work with me. This has all been worked out based on bloodwork and my symptoms.
One more thing ---- educate yourself ladies ! It can mean the difference between not sleeping, hot flashes, no energy, depression and feeling wonderful !
Get this book ! Study it ! Make it your new best friend (for a little while, at least !!)

Summary: If you are Frustrated..................
Comment: .... you need to read this book? If you feel like your current Dr. is not helping you with your hormonal imbalance, then this is a MUST READ. I suggest reading this book before you even start any meds or hormone replacement therapies. Dr. Vliet will explain what most all other doctors are doing WRONG when it comes to diagnosing hormone imbalances.
Dr. Vliet's books are the BEST books I have ever read on the topic of Womens Hormones.

Comment: I have read several books on women's hormones and women's issues. Dr. Vliet shares alot of information that no other book has. Questions that you needed to know the answer to, there are answers here. Even my gynecologist didn't know alot of what is in the book, but she has agreed with alot of what I have shared. Dr. Vliet is not biased towards one particular thing like natural hormones, no hormones, etc. She takes each subject and dissects it, looks at the pros and cons and talks about things objectively. That is REFRESHING. I learned a wealth of knowledge from reading this book as I had premature ovarian failure at 29. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
