Summary: Excellent
Comment: I had the unique experience to review this book while meeting with Dr. Chizner during a cardiac catheterization. It is very simple, well written, and made so that a novice in the medical field could understand and learn from it. To my suprise, the book is kept up to date with the latest ACLS standards. I would recommend this book to anyone who is required to be familiar with cardiology or is interested in exploring this fascinating field.

Summary: Cardiology simply is not simple!
Comment: Cardiology and trying to figure out what the problems might be when things go wrong (or might be wrong) is an extremely difficult and complex task. Thus, I was intrigued by the title of the book. Unfortunately, even "ridiculously simple" is still not simple and, for me, the book didn't deliver on the title. This might sound like a circular truism, but you still have to know the subject to be able to understand it. This book, of and by itself, is not enough to really help you learn and understand it. You would still have to separately learn all of the various topics, such as auscultation, ECG, cardiac pharmacology, etc., plus get LOTS of hands-on experience and put in the time before you can really get on top of the subject. The book is more of a summary outline than a textbook or stand-alone book. It is intended for medical students and other persons working with cardiology. As such, I think it might be a good review, summary reference, and/or companion to have at hand while taking detailed courses or studies using full texts on the component subjects (ECG, etc.). It might be a useful text for a basic cardiology course taught by a knowledgeable instructor who can properly flesh out the material in class. It includes a great, very useful CD with some different heart sounds, several good ECGs, and other cardiology materials including videos and quizzes. It is written by one of the most knowledgeable, most experienced, and most respected persons in the field. For the credentials of the author, the distilled information that it contains, and its intended goal, I would rate it a "5". However, it is over-ambitious, over-distilled (thus, incomplete and too concise in many of the component areas), perhaps over simplified, and somewhat overwhelming for a single book. If one could memorize it all and integrate everything at the same time, it would be absolutely great (and you would be a great cardiologist). But, on its own, it doesn't really simplify and help someone who doesn't already know the material and, if you already know it, you probably don't need it. Even though "simple", the book would still require a long time to go through if done properly, such as if used as a textbook in a basic cardiology course in conjunction with a good instructor, but the student would still not be fully qualified to tackle all of the subjects on his or her own without much further work and practice. The book is definitely not for the non-medical reader unless perhaps for an overview of sorts, but it will not, on its own, really help you learn the material. You will still need other books and/or courses for that. "Ridiculously simple" might not even be possible when it comes to a difficult and complex subject like cardiology. A catchy title might help sell books (I bought one!), but in my opinion it's misleading and not honest. I would prefer to see the title stand as just "Clinical Cardiology", in which case I would rate it as the 5 that it deserves.

Summary: Not the best cardiology book written!
Comment: I was seeking out a review on cardiology and thought this book would be great for what I was looking for. This wasn't the case however. I found the book too long, too wordy and found only 25% of the book useful for what I needed. The book included a CD which I found more impressive than the book itself. If you are looking for reading/reviewing information on a particular part of cardiology, seek out a different book a little more specific to your needs.

Summary: Clinical Cardiology Made Ridiculously Simple
Comment: What a easy and delightful way to quickly review clinical cardiology. The cartoons and clinical pearls are right on with any new practitoner. The lighhearted humour makes reading a pleasure. The clinic CD is a tool to be used over and over again. Dr. Chizner has created a valuable, easy to use learning guide for the beginner and the practicing clinician alike.

Summary: Cardiology Made Simple, Beautifully!
Comment: Dr. Chizner did a phenomenal job in creating the 2nd edition of Clinical cardiology. You can clearly see his passion in cardiology by all that he puts into his work on this book. In just 345 pages the book will take you through clinical perspectives in cardiology, history of a patient with CAD, physical findings, what tests should be administered, how to read the tests and understand them, different case studies are presented. The interactive CD's used to mimic the actual sounds of the heart, a murmur. This is a fantastic book. It is definitely the book of choice in my opinion for anyone interested in the field of cardiology. Dr. Chizner has a great knack for teaching and this book teaches cardiology to you. It speaks to you. No matter which way you are looking to enter into cardiology whether it is through teaching, studying, school, selling this is the book that will help you get there. It is a must have book.
