|
This comprehensive text examines normal hematopoiesis through diseases of erythroid, myeloid, lymphoid and megakaryocytic origins. Hemostasis and coagulation theory, testing, and instrumentation are also thoroughly discussed. Beautiful full-color illustrations throughout the text enhance comprehension and allow students to realistically visualize hematology concepts.
- Detailed, full-color illustrations appear near hematology concept discussions to visually support comprehension and recognition.
- Opening Case Studies present real-life scenarios to apply concepts presented in each chapter.
- Learning Objectives and Review Questions work together to list expected outcomes and then test those concepts for each chapter.
- A Bulleted Summary highlights the key concepts at the end of each chapter.
- Hematology/Hemostasis Reference Ranges inside the front and back covers provide quick reference.
- Three new chapters detail significant information: An Overview of Clinical Laboratory Hematology, Hematology in Selected Populations, and Monitoring Anticoagulant Therapy.
- All chapters have been revised to feature the most current technology and research updates.
- The included Glossary of Terms and consistent pedagogy ensure a cohesive, effective tool for learning.
- Two well-respected editors contributed more significantly to this third edition: George Fritsma shared his expertise for the Hemostasis section and Kathy Doig managed the pedagogical features.

Customer Rating: Summary: Yay for hematology! Comment: I have to use this book A LOT for my hematology class so it's really useful and A LOT cheaper than campus bookstore price. I got it in perfect condition and it sent out a lot quicker than expected.
Customer Rating: Summary: Superb for reference and review Comment: This book is highly recommended for not only a beginner's attempt to grasp the field of hematology, a topic that can be overwhelming and confusing, but for veterans as well. It is well-rounded and balanced in content and lives up to its title. It includes all the pertinents of clinical principles, disease and applications as well as morphologic and molecular aspects without the burden of too much minutia. The pictures and diagrams are excellent in both resolution and instructiveness. The tables and figures are clear and well-layed out and are very helpful in providing comparative analysis and aiding in visualization of related condition providing an easy way to view and memorize differentiating features. The end of chapter review section (chapter at a glance) is a very nice touch. Case scenarios and review questions bring to life the information at the beginning and end of each chapter. The price of this book is phenomenal, especially considering how much well-organized information is presented in an easy to digest package that you can easily carry and pull out. You will not be disappointed in this book if you are looking for a solid and strong foundation in hematology. I have been searching for a long time for such a text as this that serves both as an excellent reference as well as a useful and easy-to-manage review. I have a pathology board exam coming up in just a few weeks and wish I had found this book sooner--in medical school, my residency training and for my exam review! But even at this late stage in my frenzied state, I have found this book easy to delve into and it has significantly helped organize the information and differentiate important diagnostic features for me better. I will be reading this book again and recommend it as one of the best ways to build a solid foundation at every level who need a good understanding of hematology--technician, medical students, residents and pathologists.
Customer Rating: Summary: A pleasure to read!! Comment: I am a GP in New Zealand and needed an urgent update on my [dormant] Hematology Skills, initially acquired in the late 1980s... That's the book to go for. Excellent structure, logically proceeding.! [GP's are under pressure to update their knowledge]. Many thanks to the authors!! Dr. Bernard Werlberger, [GP for >20years], POBox 12, Thames, New Zealand. [email: gp@dobermann.co.nz]
Customer Rating: Summary: The best book on hematology Comment: Excellent book, well written, and wonderful graphics. I'm an nursing student who is also interested in clinical lab science and this has been my definitive source of answers. Seeks a balance between explaining in an easy to read format but includes enough of the details and finer points without becoming bogged down into mind-numbing minutiae. On a different note, the authors were very helpful and friendly when I emailed them on a question.
