Mitral valve prolapse (MVP), a structural flaw in the heart, sometimes causes MVP syndrome, or dysautonomia, an imbalance of the autonomic nervous system. People with this syndrome often experience panic attacks, migraines, irritable bowel conditions, and other symptoms. This book includes sections on nutrition, exercise, and self-help strategies, and explains the illness and provides strategies for living with it.

Summary: Validation That it's Not "All in Your Head"
Comment: This book is a must read for anyone with an elusive diagnosis and suffering from fatigue, dizziness, disorientation, vague gastrointestinal symptoms, heart palpitations, anxiety attacks or migraines. I suffered from debilitating symptoms for nearly a decade before I was correctly diagnosed with an autonomic disorder by Dr. Watkins (wrote the Foreword for this book.) With the correct diagnosis, he single-handedly gave me back my life after I had been unable to drive a car, walk more than 20 or 30 feet and live a normal life for nearly a decade.
Today, I am seeking re-entry into the workforce, I drive and shop every chance I get, and I run 35 miles per week. But without the correct diagnosis, none of this would be possible. Imagine how many other cases of MVP/dysautonomia are undiagnosed and misdiagnosed, with patients suffering needlessly! Kudos to the authors for bringing awareness to MVP/dysautonomia with this well-written, informative reference guide.

Summary: Who should buy this book?
Comment: Who should buy this book? a person who has had a diagnosis of mitral valve prolape but their physician has not gone into details with them about the systoms. It's a relief to know that there are things you can do to relieve and manage some symptoms. The only criticism is that the book is dated and needs some updating.

Comment: My girlfriend has found it very helpfull. She has found more answers in that book than anywhere else so far. She really likes it and has made many highlights in it.

Summary: Not too impressed
Comment: I think Dr. Hoffman's book "natural therapies for MVPS" is a way better book. This book does, however fully explain what is going on with your body, but it doesn't give good advice on therapies. You can completely change they way you feel with Magnesium and your diet. Magnesium is HUGE!! and in this book they don't even mention it as a deficiency that MVPSers have. So trust me and buy dr. hoffman's book for only $4.00!
